We’re helping our fellow hams see the light!

Welcome to the
Carolina Flashers
Photonics Group

CAUTION!  DANGER!  IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS:  These projects are intended for licensed Amateur Radio operators, who have training and knowledge of, and prudent respect for, potentially powerful energy sources.  Some of the projects that follow will involve lenses which can concentrate a large amount of light onto a very small spot.  Therefore, take care NEVER to point one of these lenses into sunlight.  Doing so will create a temperature high enough to melt metals and start fires instantly, not to mention causing instant blindness or other extreme damage to living things.  At a minimum, concentrated direct sunlight will immediately fry any electronics located at the focal point.  Some of these projects will use lasers.  NEVER point a laser at anyone, and especially NEVER point a laser at a vehicle, especially an aircraft.  Even a low intensity laser beam can dazzle and disorient a vehicle operator and cause an accident.  YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!  The Carolina Flashers Photonics Group, its officers and/or its members, cannot and will not be accountable for damage or injury.

Here you'll find links to various photonics construction projects, some by us and some by others:

  • Light-Comm - a construction project by Forrest Mims III from Fall-Winter 1972 issue of “Electronics Hobbyist” magazine
  • Ramsey LB56C - we build and test the Ramsey Electronics LED communicator hobbyist kits
